This New Year many will promise to learn a new language. After all, we at BACANO think learning a new language is the coolest thing ever!

If you have taken a language class before at the university, a language Institute, a virtual class, or even an app like Duolingo, all have the concept of “levels.”

However, there is a problem. They all have different levels designed in completely different ways! Additionally, the levels have been mostly designed based on old-fashioned grammar points and NOT on fluency.

Why is it important to know the international standard for language levels? Knowing the levels will:

  • make the process more clear so you can learn faster with less anxiety
  • let the teacher know where you are exactly and objectively
  • let the teacher know what activities are best for you
  • inform you know what level to expect on the IELTS, TOEFL, or other tests
  • prevent you from starting and then losing motivation, quitting again
  • allow you to reach the goal of advanced bilingual speaker
